5. 5 Operating modes
The GridVis
®
Collector has 2 operating modes:
1.
Server mode
· The GridVis
®
Collector synchronizes collected mea-
sured values with a GridVis database.
- The GridVis
®
Collector loads a device list from a
GridVis project.
- The GridVis
®
Collector communicates with the
GridVis database (server) via WLAN or the Ether-
net interface.
2.
Device mode
- The GridVis
®
Collector reads out the memory of
measurement devices.
- The GridVis
®
Collector communicates with the
measurement devices via the Ethernet interface or
USB/RS-485 converter. Communication via WLAN
is not possible.
- The GridVis
®
Collector synchronizes the time of
the devices (planned as of 2019).
Depending on the operating mode, the GridVis
®
Col-
lector supports different IP ranges and switches them
automatically. For example, different IP addresses can
be assigned for on-site use (e.g. transformer station)
than in the company network (see Fig. Example). The IP
addresses of the measurement devices are configured
during initial setup via the
GridVis software plug-in
or directly
on the GridVis
®
Collector
in the "Ethernet"
menu.
The GridVis
®
Collector supports DHCP, but is
not
a
DHCP server!
The fixed IP addresses of the measurement devices on
site can be selected as required. Change IP addresses
for the measurement devices that do not match before
reading them out on the GridVis
®
Collector.
For devices that are connected to a switch on site and
have different fixed IP addresses, connect the GridVis
®
Collector to the switch and read out these devices one
after the other.
The GridVis
®
Collector detects identical IP ad-
dresses for measurement devices at different
locations when they are connected for the first time
("Binding").
The GridVis
®
Collector links the serial num-
bers of the measurement devices with a special GridVis
ID. The IP addresses are therefore irrelevant. However,
IP address settings on the measurement devices, such
as 0.0.0.0 or DHCP (if no DHCP server is available on
site) are not permitted!
