3. 5 Hazards when handling the device and the li-
thium-ion battery
Lithium-ion batteries are considered to be safe when
treated and handled properly, but certain uses give rise
to potential hazards, such as:
· Technical defects (e.g. deep discharge due to
overaged batteries, unsuitable or defective battery
chargers).
· Shock (e.g. a fall), wilful destruction or manipulation
of the battery.
· Chemical compounds which can cause high
temperatures in connection with an uncontrolled
discharge.
Observe the following warnings when handling the
device and the lithium-ion battery:
WARNING
Warning against contact of the device with moistu-
re, water, fire, explosions, oils, acids, alkalis, gases,
vapours, dust and radiation!
This can lead to a chemical reaction and to a defect of
the device (material damage), or even personal injury in
case of fire or explosion.
· Protect the device from the above-mentioned sub-
stances and use the transport case for storage.
· Store and transport the device within the temperature
range of -10 to 45 °C (14-113 °F).
Recommendation:
For a long service life, store the device at 22 to 28 °C
(71-82 °F) in a dry environment!
WARNING
Warning against disregarding the temperature range
of the device.
Storage and operation outside the temperature range
of the device can cause a defect of the device (material
damage, temperatures below -10 °C/14 °F), or even
fire or explosion (personal injury, temperatures above
45 °C/113 °F).
· Comply with the specified temperature limits for
storage and operation of the device (battery)! Also
see the section "Technical data".
