Quit Maker Pro 18 VERSA
Power Supply
The Quilt Maker Pro 18 VERSA machine has one 48V
DC power supply mounted within the free arm at the
bottom of the machine. This power supply provides
48V DC to the motor and the control-Board.
Symptoms of a Failed Power Supply
If the 48V DC power supply has failed there will
be no power to the motor driver board or to the
machine’s control board. The control board powers
the remainder of the machines powered components
besides the motor driver board . This includes the
handle bars, handle bar lights, handle bar displays,
light ring, and tension device sensor.
There are two cables from the 48V DC output from
the power supply. One 48V DC output cable powers
the motor driver board . The red cables goes to the
top connection and the black cable goes to the
bottom connection on the motor driver board. The
other 48V DC output cable powers the control board
mounted to the machine’s front cover.
Because the motor driver has its own power
connection it is possible for the control board to have
power and for the displays to all be operational, but
the machine may not run if the motor driver cable or
connections are faulty. Everything may look normal
until the “Start” or “Needle Up/Down” button is
pressed. With no power to the motor driver board
the motor will not turn and a message on the handles
will indicate either “Needle Sense Failure” or “Needle
Sense Failure During Walk.” If this happens, check the
output of both cables from the power supply output
for 48V DC. Remember when removing and replacing
the power supply to re-apply the pink insulating
material to the power supply to prevent the metal
heat sinks from hitting the machine casting. The
insulating material must have no holes or damage to
it to be re-used, otherwise it must be replaced.
The power supply is very reliable. If the power
supply has failed, there will be no power at all to
the machine (no handlebar screens, no lights, etc.).
However, it is more likely that the power cord is loose
or the fuse has blown in the center of the power input
connector on the back of the machine. The power
cord and fuse should be checked before replacing the
power supply.
Note: the power supply shown above has the remote
switch cable attached (circled). A QM20204 jumper
may be used in place of this cable to defeat the
remote switch on the power supply for servicing
purposes if needed. The jumper allows burn-in
testing of the machine without a front handle bar
attached to the machine. This is important when a
front handlebar is not available with the machine for
repair. The jumper must be removed afterward.
Motor driver: 48V DC power connection to motor
driver, red cable is on the top and to top and
black to bottom.
