Note:
After some time the collection cap fills with gas which will now
and again escape upwards through the ventilation openings.
This gas is not CO
2
, but “false” gas which is sometimes present
in small quantities in CO
2
cylinders or which diffuses into the
bubbles on their way upwards from the surrounding water.
Please clean the reactor as little as possible. Fitting it in a dark
spot in the aquarium with adequate water movement is therefore
of advantage.
The number of bubbles:
When using bio-CO
2
systems, the number of bubbles is
predetermined by the system and can’t be regulated. For
systems with pressurised gas cylinders:
the amount of CO
2
needed depends on the quantity of water, the
carbonate hardness, the required pH level and its consumption
by plants. Start initially with one bubble in every second bend
in the device and slowly increase the number over the course
of several days, as required. The pH level can be used to
monitor the amount. We recommend using the
JBL Test Set
Permanent CO
2
plus pH
.
Maintenance
The reactor is made of clear Plexiglas, which allows you to
monitor the bubbles easily. If necessary, it can be cleaned
in pure tap water. The device can be dismantled for cleaning
