Safety instructions
Caution: To protect against injury and electric shocks, basic safety precautions should be
observed including the following:
1. Read and follow all safety advice.
2. Warning: Since equipment for aquariums comes into contact with water, particular
care is needed to avoid electric shocks. Should one of the following situations arise,
do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself. The appliance must be repaired by
an authorised specialist or sent to JBL GmbH & Co. KG for inspection:
If the appliance has fallen into the water, do not try to retrieve it! Disconnect the ap-
pliance from the power supply first and then retrieve it.
Check the appliance carefully after installation: There should be no water on parts
which are not intended for contact with water.
Do not use the appliance if the cable or power plug is damaged. Likewise, the ap-
pliance should not be used if it is damaged, has been dropped or is not functioning
properly.
The appliance should be positioned next to a wall socket in a spot where no water
can splash on the socket or plug. The power cable of the device should hang like a
“drip loop” to prevent water running along the cable from getting into the socket.
Never touch the socket or plug if they are wet! First, turn off the electric circuit by us-
ing the safety switch Afterwards, pull out the plug. Check all parts for water.
3. The appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with a physi-
cal, sensory or mental impairment, as well as by persons with no previous experience,
if they are under supervision. They need to have received an induction into how to
use the appliance for this purpose and be aware of the risks of use. The appliance is
not a toy. Children should not clean the appliance or do maintenance on it unless
they are over the age of 8 and are being supervised.
4. Avoid injury by not touching any hot parts.
5. Always disconnect the appliance from the power supply when not in use, before
installing or removing parts or before cleaning. The plug should never be pulled out
of the socket by the cable. Always hold the plug when disconnecting.
6. The appliance should only be used for aquariums. The use of accessories or parts not
recommended by the manufacturer can lead to hazardous situations and a loss of
warranty.
7. If the mains cable of this appliance is damaged it must be replaced by the manufac-
turer or its customer service team or by a similarly qualified person in order to avert
dangers.
8. Prior to first-time operation, make sure the appliance has been installed safely.
9. If an extension cable is used, make sure that the cable diameter is correct. The cable
may overheat if the diameter is too small. The cable should be laid so that no one can
trip over it or unintentionally disconnect it from the power supply.
10. Switch off the appliance when there is no water flowing through it.
11. Before working on the appliance or in the aquarium, all electrical appliances must be
disconnected from the power supply.
12. Never install the appliance above the water surface for operation in an aquarium.
13. Appliances that are obviously damaged may not be operated.
