Power Up Synthesis and DACS4:
After you have completed the connections described above, you are ready to power up Synthesis and DACS4. At this
point, the Synthesis system and the laptop computer should be off. The EVP-1, which has no power switch, should
already be on, as indicated by the red LED on the rear panel.
Turn the surround processor on first, allowing adequate time for all Synthesis components to come on.
1. Turn the surround processor’s gain control to minimum.
2. Turn on the laptop computer and wait for it to boot fully. When the boot is complete, there will be a message on the
screen asking if there is an SDEC 1000/2500 in this system. The computer will pause at this point, waiting for your
response. DO NOT respond at this time.
3. Select the AUX input on the surround processor. If you used a different input, select that one.
4. Slowly raise the gain of the surround processor, listening for any abnormal noises. This might be hum, pops, ticks,
sizzling, hissing or any other sound, that is abnormal or unexpected. Remember that some low-level hum and hiss is
normal, but it should be quite subtle. Continue raising the gain until you reach 0dB reference. If you hear nothing out
of the ordinary, proceed to the next step. If you do hear something that you suspect may be indicative of a problem,
turn the gain back down immediately and refer to the troubleshooting guide elsewhere in this manual.
