Figure 30 illustrates the results one might expect from using [Shift]+[F4] to set level. The fine upper trace is the first
test, the lower trace is the second test with the subwoofer output lowered 5dB. Figure 31 illustrates the same test
conducted using only [F4], which performs a standard resolution test. This subwoofer is now ready for equalization.
You may repeat the [Shift]+[F4] and/or [F4] as often as necessary to produce the desired result.
• Auto-Equalization
When you have performed the tests and adjustments described above, you should have something similar to
Figure 31 on the DACS4 response graph. You are ready to initiate the Auto-EQ routine. Press [F2] now.
Figure 32:
Results of Auto-EQ
Figure 32 illustrates the results of Auto-EQ. Notice the remaining small peaks and dips at the top of the graph. With
10 bands of parametric equalization and some determination, these can be removed completely. Doing so dramati-
cally increases the computation time needed. Additionally, small, high “Q” anomalies such as these have been found
to be inaudible. Therefore, the Auto-EQ algorithm makes no attempt to correct them.
When you are satisfied with the performance of the subwoofers, press [F3]. [F3] transmits the final settings for this
channel to the SDEC, places a check mark in the diamond above the subwoofer channel-status indicator and
advances to the Left Cinema channel, ready for additional tests.
