lever axis as shown in the right figure below. The cantilever is twi
ing due to the friction force occurring between the specimen surface and the
lever tip. The FFM measures the friction force from this torsion of the cantilever.

The following is the procedure for FFM observation.
1.
Select the FFM radio button at the left bottom of the Contact Mode tab
window.

Display Window.

Click on the Scan button.

The scanning direction automatically changes by 90
°
when FFM is selected.
The white locations in the FFM image indicate the areas where the friction force is
large.
