Using the AAC Sounds
You can apply special sound modes to the tracks recorded
in the AAC (Advanced Audio Coding: see the right
column) format.
• You can use this effect only for playback of the AAC
encoded tracks.
• This function also affects the sounds through the
PHONES jack and the LINE OUT jacks.
• To record into the HDD using the AAC format, see pages
42 to 51.
On the remote control ONLY:
To activate the AAC sound modes, press
AAC SOUND
repeatedly until an AAC sound mode you want appears in
the main display.
The SOUND indicator lights up on the display.
• Each time you press the button, AAC sound modes
change as follows:
HALL
: Use this when you want to add
depth and brilliance to the
sounds.
MID NIGHT
: Use this when listening at night.
A powerful sound will be
maintained even at a low volume
level.
HEAD PHONES
: Use this when listening with the
headphones. Spatial and
stereophonic feelings will be
maintained.
MONO FILM
: Use this to listen to a monaural
source. Stereophonic feeling will
be created.
AAC SOUND OFF : AAC sound mode is canceled.

To check the current AAC sound mode, press

once.
To cancel the AAC sound modes, press

repeatedly until “AAC SOUND OFF” appears in the main
display.
The SOUND indicator goes off from the display.
If “NOT AAC” appears in the main display
While playing a non-AAC track, you cannot use any AAC sound
mode.
What is AAC?
AAC, licensed by Dolby Laboratories, is high-quality
sound encoding technology, enabling us to compress
sounds without losing the brilliance of the original.
AAC can eliminate over 90 percent of the original
signal data without noticeable sound quality
deterioration.
Even compared to MP3 technology, AAC can provide
higher-quality sound reproduction, with about 30
percent less data volume.
