Troubleshooting
If you are having a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for service.
If you cannot solve the problem from the hints given here, or the unit has been physically damaged, call a qualified person,
such as your dealer, for service.
IMPORTANT: Before calling for service, make sure you have all data in the HDD duplicated into other recording
devices, for it may be required to erase all data in the HDD for service purpose.
Symptom
Poor radio reception.
Stereo effect is lost in FM
broadcast.
Loaded disc cannot be ejected.
The disc does not play.
Tracks are skipped.
Some of the CD functions, such as
skip or search, do not work
correctly.
Sounds are skipped intermittently.
Sound is interrupted by a silence
between each track.
Search is not performed properly.
A library cannot be selected.
Some albums or tracks cannot be
selected.
Possible Cause
• The antenna is not connected
correctly.
• The AM (MW/LW) loop antenna is
too close to the unit.
• The FM antenna is not properly
extended and positioned.
FM reception mode is changed to “FM
MONO.”
• The main AC power cord is not
plugged in.
• The Disc Lock function is in use.
• The disc is upside down.
• Track Skip mark is recorded for the
first track of the disc.
• The disc is dirty or scratched.
• Track Skip marks are recorded.
You are playing an unfinalized disc.
The unit is subject to external vibration
or shock.
If you have recorded the tracks from a
live CD, sounds may be interrupted at
the beginning of each track.
Search is performed on an AAC track
of less than 20 seconds long.
No album or track is recorded in the
library.
Library information stored in the HDD
and what actually recorded do not
match. This may be caused by a power
failure while recording, compressing
(Smart Compression) or editing the
data in the HDD.
Action
• Reconnect the antenna securely.
• Change the position and direction of
the AM (MW/LW) loop antenna.
• Extend FM antenna to the best
reception position.
Press
FM/PLAY MODE
to select “FM
AUTO” (see page 18).
• Plug in the AC power plug.
• Turn off the Disc Lock function (see
page 31).
• Put the disc in with the label side up.
• Wait until the unit finds a track
without a Track Skip mark.
• Clean or replace the disc (see page
76).
• This is normal.
This is normal. If you need to use these
functions, finalize the disc.
(This unit cannot finalize CD-Rs/CD-
RWs.)
Reduce the volume (speaker output
level) or change the installation place.
This is normal for the HDD. To avoid
this, use analog recording, then join the
tracks later using the JOIN function
(see page 51 and 65).
This is normal.
Unless some recording is stored in a
library, you cannot select it.
Use the RESTORE function (see page
58).
