There is an issue of handling the recorded information of the us-
ers after backup. There is another matter of increasing backup
time regarding mass storage media. The new software HiTest is
introduced to countermeasure these matters. 
The failure detection capability goes down as there is no writing
test. However, our examination shows that the detection accura-
cy is not influenced by the lack of writing test as most Microdrives
which have detected errors in writing test also have errors in
reading test. 
The only weakness of HiTest is that there is no equivalent func-
tion to CleanDisk in DDD software because HiTest does not have
writing function.
The handling of this software is explained as follows.

1. Platform Requirements

HiTest operation requires the following platform requirements.
Although it may operate on lower specification platforms, we
do not guarantee the operation under such platforms.
• PC/AT compatible models (It cannot be used with Macin-

tosh)

• CPU: Pentium 1 GHz or faster
•  OS: Windows XP/2000 (SP4 or later)
• RAM with 256MB or more (NOTE1)
• Memory: 10GB or more empty hard disk space
• PCMCIA card (PC card) TYPE II slot (NOTE2)
• Monitor / graphics: 256 colors or more, 800 x 600 minimum,

 768 or more is suggested)

NOTE1:

When HiTest is installed to a PC with less RAM capacity left,
it may cause the following symptoms.
• An error occurs during the installation, and the installation

does not complete.

• The operation becomes unstable while starting up the

software.

NOTE2:

There must be PCMCIA card (PC card) TYPE ll slot which is
equipped to NOTE PCs and some desktop PCs.HiTest can-
not be used with CF / Microdrive reader with USB, or CF di-
rect insert drives.

HiTest software does not operate by itself. 
Windows, as an operation system, tests Microdrives by con-
trolling ATA board via the functions of Microsoft.NET and Mi-
crosoft Data Access Components (MDAC).  
Thus, it is impossible to access a Microdrive via a USB termi-
nal which does not go through ATA board.
When using HiTest, Microsoft.NET and Microsoft Data Access
Components (MDAC) must be installed in the PCs.

2. How to obtain HiTest

(1) HiTest (HiTest.EXE) can be obtained by downloading

from JS-NET. After download, execute HiTest.EXE to
create the HiTest. SETUP folder.

3. Installation procedure

(1) Double click the "Setup.exe" in the HiTest. SETUP folder

for start up.

(2) Press the "Next" button to proceed with the installation.
