Editing with another video recorder or a 
camcorder

You can use your recorder as the source player or the recording 
deck. You can use a camcorder as the source player and your 
recorder as the recording deck. Refer also to the other 
components’ instruction manuals for connection and its 
operations.

Connection with another video recorder

If another recorder is compatible with the Y/C signal…
… When using your recorder as the source player, set “L-1 
OUTPUT” to “S-VIDEO” in “Output/Input Set”.
… When using your recorder as the recording deck, set “L-2 
INPUT” to “S-VIDEO” in “Output/Input Set”.

Connection with a camcorder

Connect the camcorder’s AUDIO/VIDEO OUT connectors to the 
recorder’s L-1 IN/OUT or L-2 IN/DECODER connector via a cable 
adapter.

Load cassettes

Insert the playback cassette into the source player and the cassette 
to be recorded on into the recording deck.

Select input mode on recording deck

Select  the correct external input on the recording deck. On this 
recorder, press 

AUX

on the recorder.
Select “L-1” for the L-1 IN/OUT connector, or “L-2” for the L-2 IN/
DECODER connector.

When using the L-2 IN/DECODER connector, set “L-2 SELECT” 
to “A/V” in “Output/Input Set”.

Select edit mode

Select the appropriate edit mode for the components if such a 
mode is equipped.

On this recorder, set “PICTURE CONTROL” to “EDIT”. (

Start playback

Engage the Play mode of the source player.

Start recording

Engage the Record mode of the recording deck.

L-1 OUTPUT Setting:

The L-1 IN/OUT connector accepts only a composite signal 
(regular video signal) and delivers either a composite signal 
(regular video signal) or a Y/C signal (a signal in which the 
luminance and chrominance signals are separated). Set “L-1 
OUTPUT” to the appropriate mode depending on the type of 
appliance connected to the recorder’s L-1 IN/OUT connector.

L-2 SELECT and L-2 INPUT Setting:

The L-2 IN/DECODER connector accepts either a composite 
signal (regular video signal) or a Y/C signal (a signal in which the 
luminance and chrominance signals are separated). Set “L-2 
SELECT” to the appropritate mode depending on the type of 
appliance connected to the recorder’s L-2 IN/DECODER 
connector. Set “L-2 INPUT” to the appropriate mode depending 
on the output signals of the connected appliance.

NOTES:

If you have a satellite receiver or a decoder connected to the L-2 
IN/DECODER connector, be sure to set “L-2 SELECT” back to 
appropriate mode after editing.

If you are not connecting a satellite receiver or a decoder to the 
L-2 IN/DECODER connector, leave “L-2 SELECT” set to “A/V”.

When “L-2 SELECT” is set to “SAT”, “SAT” or “SAt” appears on 
TV screen or front display panel instead of “L-2” or “L2”.

If “L-2 SELECT” is set to “DECODER”, it is impossible to set “L-2 
INPUT” to “S-VIDEO”.

If “L-1 OUTPUT” is set to “S-VIDEO”, it is impossible to set “L-2 
SELECT” to “DECODER”.

: If a connected appliance’s input is compatible only with

S-VIDEO

: If a connected appliance’s input is compatible with Y/C 

signals, set to “S-VIDEO”. You can obtain high-quality S-VHS 
picture. (For connection, be sure to use a 21-pin SCART cable that 
is compatible with the Y/C signal.)

A/V

: To use this recorder as the recording deck with the player 

connected to the L-2 IN/DECODER connector, or to use the 
satellite receiver connected to the L-2 IN/DECODER connector.

: To view a satellite programme with the TV set while the 

recorder is turned off. (
