Component
Status
The status of the four main Contour components (IMU, Encoder,
Color Camera, and Motion Camera) are listed below the Scan
Photo and Color Adjustment buttons, in the lower right corner of
the Begin New Scan screen. Green letters indicate the components
are enabled, with red letters indicating a component is not active
or is currently disabled.
To take a cover picture, click the
Scan Photo
button
on the right side of the display. From
this screen you can also rename the scan or add notes before scanning. You will see a few
scanning options that can be adjusted for this scan (default values can be set in the system
settings). After taking the image, if you like, you can relocate to a different location to start
the scan.
Either pressing the
Scan Start/Stop
button again or pressing the
Start Scan
button in the
upper right corner of the UI initiates lidar point collection to build the initial reference frame
for your scan. While the initial frame is building, it is important to hold the device relatively
still. After 10-15 seconds, the multi-color registered pointcloud appears. If you start a scan
before pressing the
Scan Photo
button, Contour records the current image as the cover
photo, uses the default name, and starts scanning at your current location. It is important
to ensure that the scene is not dynamic (people walking through or in close proximity) when
scanning.
Scan Tip:
Keep Contour stationary at the beginning of your scan until you
see the pointcloud display on the LCD. This gives the best reference before
moving Contour to start adding points to the 3D model. Moving too soon
may introduce errors. Selecting a good starting point to anchor the scan is
important.
