button. Repeat this for all desired images during scanning.
After scanning, select General Advanced Options of the Processing tab and check the Use
only Selected Images checkbox. Then click
Run
. This produces a pointcloud and mesh
colored only by the selected images, so the objects are likely to be more clear and easier to
identify in the mesh and pointcloud directly. In general, the mesh provides better image
clarity, color is near image resolution, and the color pointcloud provides accurate 3D
representation without the artifacts produced by meshing. The combination of these is
often useful to best understand the model (Figure 46).
Figure 46: Manually selecting images during scanning for overlay allows you to produce meshes that show specific
details that are important to modeling the environment accurately.

The same approach of using manually selected pictures can be used to generate higher
quality image meshes of smaller spaces, specifically single rooms at a time. To accomplish
this, first scan the room to generate a good quality 3D model. Then go back through the
room treating Contour as though it was a camera - pause and take images of the scene.
Take enough to ensure full coverage of every surface, this may mean over a hundred in a
single room depending on desired level of detail and complexity of the scene. This could
be close to full coverage, or just a few key images of what you want to identify in the model.
Within the Color Pointcloud and Color Mesh Advanced Options, there are multiple settings
you can adjust based on your environment. Initially, we recommend leaving default settings
for interior spaces, like an office, with reasonably high point density.
