Scan Tip:
You can optimize your data collection by doing the following:
•
Limiting the number and size of moving objects in the scene
•
Limiting scanning too close to walls and other large objects
•
Being aware of transition areas (such as moving from one room to
another)
•
Ensuring that there is enough lighting in the scene.

During normal scanning operation, a new battery will provide between 1.5 and 2 hours of
usage. This does not include post-processing on Contour, which requires more power than
normal scanning operations. If your Contour is not scanning for the average 1.5 to 2 hours,
please view some of the known issues below or contact Kaarta to discuss the issue.
The time required to recharge the Contour battery using the provided AC charger is 1 to
1.5 hours while the device is powered off. The time to recharge will be longer if Contour is
powered on, performing built in processing, or running Cloud Compare.

Contour has a built-in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that senses when the internal
battery is approaching 0% and automatically shuts down. When the battery is at 35%, you
are warned to charge Contour. This allows enough time to mindfully stop a scan, power off
Contour, and start charging the device. The automatic shut-off is in place to ensure that the
internal UPS can remain powered and charge normally.
Note:
If during operation Contour automatically shuts off, immediately plug
Contour into its AC charger to begin recharge of the unit.
If an attempt is made to power on Contour after an automatic shut-off has occurred, the
battery could be drained below the voltage necessary to power the UPS. In this case,
Contour will not power on. If this occurs, an external trickle charger is required to charge
the battery back above the minimum UPS voltage. Kaarta can assist with the trickle-charge
procedure and provide guidance to successfully recharge your battery.
