Stencil Pro has an integrated Trimble GNSS receiver (post-processing kinematic or PPK) to
achieve best-in-class, low-drift accuracy while mapping over longer ranges. GNSS raw logs
are collected, processed via PPK, and then used to align and geo-register data, providing
global accuracy and further enhancing the fidelity of large area scans and long, linear scan
paths. PPK is flexible in its workflow; you have the freedom to run processing multiple
times, with different settings each time, if you choose.
With PPK, you can set up your own base station or use a publicly available subscription
based Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) or Virtual Reference System (VRS)
as your base. These virtual networks do not require a correction link between base and
rover, making equipment setup simpler for those without expensive surveying
equipment. PPK is a reliable, accurate solution to collect data from many types of
worksites. Keep in mind that some of the data you will need to complete the PPK process
is provided by government entities and may take 24-48 hours.
In addition to PPK, Stencil Pro also supports Network Transport of RTCM via Internet
Protocol (NTRIP) for real-time differential correction. NTRIP is an open standard protocol
that sends correction data using the internet via a cellular modem (generally a cell phone
or hot spot). A strong cellular signal is required for NTRIP; however, the corrected data is
immediately available, bypassing the 24-48 hour wait of PPK correction. With continued
growth of RTK networks and receiver, as well as the ubiquity of cellular/internet coverage,
NTRIP has become a tool for the layperson, whereas previously a setup was expensive
and complex and generally only undertaken by surveyors or geospatial professionals.
A combination of both NTRIP and PPK generally produces the best quality of data.
Directions for using both processes are outlined below.

While Stencil Pro’s Trimble GNSS receiver seamlessly integrates into the UI and overall
capture workflow, following these recommended best practices can help with collecting,
evaluating, and processing your GNSS data.
