Calculate Normals
will estimate the local surface represented by a point and its
neighbors. Surface normals are important properties of a geometric surface and are
heavily used in many areas such as computer graphics applications, to apply the correct
light sources that generate shadings and other visual effects. The level of noise and the
number/distance of neighbors will change how this surface looks. This step will also add
the normals that were calculated to the point cloud as a scalar field. The
Search Radius
is
the radius around a point to include when calculating the normals for that point.
Run Sharpening
compresses flat surfaces and reduces the repeatability blur of the lidar.
Kaarta Clean
calculates outliers, noise, and other unwanted data in the point cloud.
Filtering will remove these points from your dataset. The
Mean K
is the statistical outlier
calculation which computes the average distance of each point to its neighbors
(considering k nearest neighbors for each). You can then choose to reject the points that
are farther than the average distance.
