Subs ample
A subsampled or downsampled point cloud is a subset of the input cloud, with a reduced
number of points. A subsampled point cloud retains all the features of its source or input
cloud (scalar fields, colors, normals, etc.). There are four methods of subsampling
available on Stencil Pro: Percent, Random, Spatial, and Octree (Figure 64).
Subsampling by a
Percent
will reduce the point cloud by a percentage of total points.
Random
resampling will select points to remove in a random manner. In
Spatial
mode,
you must set a minimal distance between two points. Points will be removed that are
further away than this minimal distance. The larger the minimal distance, less points will
be kept. The
Octree
method can be used to partition a point cloud by recursively
subdividing it into eight octants. You can select the level of subdivision of the octree at
which the cloud will be downsampled. The higher the level, the smaller the cells (and the
more points will be kept).
