Compact Reader distance - metal bodies
Influence of the magnetic field near the reader by a metal body results in shorter reading distances
and may even cause failure of the reading functions. In metallic environments, the electromagnetic
field is short-circuited.
IMPORTANT
For mounting on metal surfaces, we recommend surface cable mounting with a spacer frame to
maximize the antenna range
The antenna's reading/writing quality must be checked in all cases.
An air gap in the conductive body is often sufficient to weaken the magnetic circuit to such an
extent that the antenna is no longer affected to any considerable degree

2.4.3 Antenna
adaptation
The slide switch can be used to calibrate the antenna for mounting on metallic or non-metallic
bases.
Always
put the slide switch in the
Air
position, except when using a metallic base. The slide switch
is set to the
Air
position on delivery (default).
Position Meaning
In
Air
position for a non-metallic base;
(default)
In
Metal
position for a metallic base

Reading and writing distance in the case of direct mounting on metal surfaces
If the Compact Reader is mounted directly on a metal surface, the reading distances in the above
graphics are located in the shorter range in each case.
