4. Check the belt tension (see Fig. 55, II).
Belt tension too low: Pull the alternator further outward (⃕+).
Belt tension too high: Slightly move the alternator inward (−⃔).
Replacing the fan drive belt:
1. Loosen the tensioning frame securing screw and clamping nut until the drive belt can be taken
off the pulleys.
2. Remove the belt.
3. Check the pulleys for dirt and wear.
Dirty pulley: Clean pulley.
Worn pulley: Have the pulley changed.
4. Manually route the new drive belt over the pulleys without using force.
5. Tension the drive belt. Ensure that the drive belt is correctly positioned in its guide.
6. Check the belt tension (see Fig. 55, II) and re-tension, if required.
A belt that has been replaced may not be used again.
After running for two to three hours, check the belt tension again.
Replacing the alternator drive belt:
You must remove the fan belt before you can replace the alternator drive belt.
1. Loosen the securing screws of the alternator.
2. Move the alternator inward until the drive belt is slack and can be removed from the pulleys.
3. Remove the belt.
4. Check the pulleys for dirt and wear.
Dirty pulley: Clean pulley.
Worn pulley: Have the pulley changed.
5. Manually route the new drive belt over the pulleys without using force.
6. Tension the drive belt.
■ Ensure that the drive belt is correctly positioned in its guide.
■ Use the setting screw to move the alternator outward (⃕+) until the drive belt is tensioned.
■ Tighten the securing screws:

= 22 lbf-ft
7. Check the belt tension (see Fig. 55, I) and re-tension, if required.
Install and tension the fan drive belt.
A belt that has been replaced may not be used again.

Putting in operation:
1. Replace the belt guard.
2. Turn on the «battery isolating switch».
3. Close the doors.
