Unit functions
Driving operation (battery-powere d unit)
When the drive lever is pushed forward or backward, the unit moves in the corresponding directions.
The drive lever also controls the driving speed.
Braking of the machine is effected by releasing the drive lever (centre-position). If the unit is to be
parked, the parking brake must be set and firmly engaged in the ratchet stop position.
CAUTION:
While engaged in driving operation, do not switch off the unit by means of the key
switch. Instead, first release the drive lever, allow the machine to come to a standstill, and only then
turn the key switch to the off position. The emergency-stop pushbutton should be activated only in
emergency situations.
Driving operation (mains-powered unit)
The mains-powered unit is not equipped with an electric motor for driving operation. Due to the
reduced unit weight resulting from the absence of the storage batteries used in the battery-powered
unit version, the propulsive force of the brush rollers and/or disc brushes is sufficient to effect forward
motion. The unit is not equipped with a parking brake.
Cleaning operation
When the cleaning head is lowered by means of the foot pedal, a microswitch automatically activates
the brush rollers and/or disc brushes. Upon raising the cleaning head they are disabled again in the
same fashion. The brush contact pressure can be manually adjusted in four steps by means of a
lever. If a brush overload is detected, the electronic control module automatically shuts off the brush
motors, and the corresponding indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates. If this condition
occurs, use the key switch to switch off the machine, raise the cleaning head and remove the cause
of the overload (i.e., excessive brush contact pressure or entangled twine), and then switch on the
machine again. On the BR 550 unit the brushes can be offset from each other in a parallel fashion in
order to increase the width of the cleaning area from 550 mm to 700 mm. To make this adjustment,
the clamping screw on the cleaning head must be loosened slightly.
Water supply
The water supply control knob on the instrument panel is used to switch on the water pump while
selecting the water feed volume for the cleaning head. When not using the unit turn the water metering
valve to the zero position. This shuts off the water flow to the cleaning head.
Vacuuming operation
When the suction bar is lowered by means of the control lever, a microswitch automatically activates
the suction turbine. Upon lifting the suction bar off the floor, the suction turbine will continue to run for a
timed interval of 10 seconds in order to transport the remaining water volume still in the suction hose
into the dirty-water tank. When the dirty-water tank reaches its full level, a float switch switches off the
suction turbine, and a corresponding indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates. Using the
override function of a sealed pushbutton on the instrument panel, the suction turbine can be switched
on or off independently. The skew of the suction bar deviating from the axis of travel, as well as its
incline can be adjusted according to the floor covering being cleaned. For the purpose of travel in the
reverse direction, the suction bar must be raised.
