RFID Antenna Concepts and possible Exposure Scenarios
10.1
Antenna Concepts and Families from Kathrein Solutions
The UHF RFID antennas from Kathrein Solutions can be divided into the following groups.
a) Low Range antennas - reading range up to 20 cm
b) Mid Range antennas - reading range from 20 cm to 5 m
c) Wide Range antennas - reading range of more than 10 m
Smart shelf antennas (SMSH antennas) have a special role (d). They belong to the mid-range antennas in terms of the
reading range, but form a separate group due to their design..
10.2
Characteristics of the individual antenna groups:
a)
Low range antennas
- read range up to 20 cm
- Suitable for applications in their reactive near fieldIs
- realised in a small design (8x9 cm)
- has extremely low antenna gain (e.g. -15 dBi)
- has very high selectivityis
- is not affected by metal in the vicinity of the antennas
b)
Mid Range Antennas
- reading range from 20 cm to 5 m for reactive near field and far field applications
- are small in size (15x12 cm)
- reading range limited by 0.5 W ERP radiated power
- the selectivity is strongly dependent on the reading distance
c)
Wide range antennas
- reading range of more than 10 m for applications in the far field
- variants with 30° and 70° aperture angle
- the radiated power is max 2 W ERP
- the selectivity is strongly dependent on the reading range
d)
SMSH antennas
- reading range up to 3 m for applications in the radiated near field
- have an extremely thin design
- have a very homogeneous reading field
- have an extremely high front-to-back ratio
