Disinfection:

Only reusable ear funnels need to be

disinfected with (for example) Helipur. Follow the

concentrations and reaction times given by the

manufac turer. The otoscope can be disinfected by wiping

it with a cloth dampened with (e.g. isopropyl) alcohol.

Sterilisation:

Only the reusable funnels can be sterilised.

Sterilise them in an autoclave at a temperature of 134°C

for a minimum of 3 minutes.

Maintenance:

Defective parts must be removed and/or

replaced. If the instrument is not functioning, follow these

steps: 1. Replace batteries or rechargeable batteries and

check the instrument for functionality; 2. Replace the

lamp and check once more; 3. Send the unit in for repair.

Check and performance test:

Check all movable parts

such as the frames of the magnifying glasses and plugin

connections to ensure that they all move smoothly. Turn

on the unit. For all units: Visually check all parts for

damage and wear. Keep all electrical contact points clean.

Packaging:

Individually, in a cloth bag or box.

User's Manual/Maintenance Instructions

for Rechargeable NiMH/Li-Ion Batteries

Purpose:

The rechargeable batteries are to be used as an

energy source for the relevant KaWe products.

Further information, maintenance, storage:

 The

rechargeable batteries can be cleaned with a damp cloth

and then be wiped off with a dry cloth. Please ensure that

no short-circuit is produced.

Further maintenance instructions that may

prolong the lifetime of the rechargeable battery:

Please heed the following instructions: The

nonob servance of these instructions may result in the

battery  losing its full capacity within a short period

of time. With NiMH technology, a so-called “lazy battery

effect” can occur. This can cause the rechargeable battery

to discharge too much if there is reduced output voltage.

This effect can be nearly eliminated by completely

discharging the battery from time to time and then by

recharging it two or three times in quick succession.

Subsequently, the rechargeable battery will regain its full

capacity. If the battery no longer provides sufficient

energy to operate the unit, immediately turn off the unit

and charge the battery (in order to prevent it from losing

its charge completely, which would result in irreversible

damage to the battery).

Please note that the rechargeable batteries can

spontaneously discharge. If the batteries are not needed

(used/charged) for a longer period of time, a

self-discharge may occur. The capacity will be lost and the

batteries may thus become permanently damaged. The

manufacturer is not liable for any resulting damages.

When stored for longer than one month, the rechargeable

batteries should be partially charged to approx. 50% and

high storage temperatures (>30°C) should be avoided.
Please always heed the given charging times in order to

avoid overcharging and thus damaging the rechargeable

battery. Use the KaWe charging station KaWe Med Charge®

4000, which has an integrated automatic shut off

function.

Risks and notice of possible danger:

Avoid short-circuiting the rechargeable batteries.
Never allow the rechargeable batteries to come into

contact with liquids.
Keep the rechargeable batteries away from heating

installations and open flames.
Rechargeable batteries are not to be immersed in water or

salt water
Never try to disassemble or modify the batteries or expose

them to heat.
Avoid dropping the batteries and protect them against

being hit or crushed as this may damage the housing.
Please only use rechargeable batteries and accessory parts

recommended by KaWe.
When using a rechargeable battery for the first time,

please make sure to charge it completely.
When charging is completed and the charging unit and

the compact adapter are no longer in use, please

disconnect them from the unit and the socket in order to

avoid fires and other dangers.
Do not cover the charging unit with any kind of material

(table clothes, carpets, bedclothes etc.) while operating

the instrument. If you use the adapter for a longer period

of time, it may become overheated, lose its original shape

or catch fire.
Please only charge the rechargeable batteries in the

appropriate charging unit. The charging unit and the

compact adapter have been developed especially for use

with your unit. Please do not use them with other
