portion of the pupil while viewing the fundus through
the upper portion of the pupil. If the corneal reflection
still disturbs the observation, move the Filter Lever to
“P”. Then, rotate the Viewing Aperture Polarizing Fil-
ter so that its white mark is at the top. This position
minimizes the corneal reflection. If you want to obtain
a brighter visual field, you can do so by rotating the
Viewing Aperture Polarizing Filter, but this will in turn
increase the corneal reflction.
Further instructions, maintenance, storage:
When used and stored properly, this instrument will
serve you reliably for many years. KaWe ophthalmos-
copes are only to be used with KaWe-brand replace-
ment parts and accessories.
Guarantee:
When used under normal circumstances
and with attention to these instructions (the User’s
Manual) we guarantee this product for two years after
the date of purchase. Should you need further infor-
mation or should your instrument require repair, please
contact your dealer!
Warning:
Never immerse the ophthalmoscope in
any kind of liquid and always prevent all liquids from
penetrating into the housing! Do not allow the oph-
thalmoscope to have direct contact with the eye. Long
operation times can cause the parts of the instrument
near the light to become very hot. The ophthalmo-
scope is not intended for use during operations and
therefore simple cleaning and/or disinfection with an
alcohol-based surface disinfecting agent is sufficient.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents! The ophthalmo-
scope cannot be sterilized.
KaWe ophthalmoscopes are to be used at room
temperatures of not greater than 35° C. KaWe opht-
halmoscopes are subject to special safety measures
with regard to their electromagnetic compatibility.
The operation of the KaWe ophthalmoscope can be
influenced by portable and mobile high-frequency
communication devices.
Workstation:
Remove surface impurities with a pa-
per towel or disposable cloth.
Storage and transport:
No special requirements.
Cleaning preparation:
No special requirements.
Manual cleaning:
In order to avoid contact with dirt
and dust, always store the ophthalmoscope in its pack-
aging. A damp, soft and lint-free cloth can be used to
clean the exterior of the instrument. The glass of the
viewing window can be cleaned when necessary
with a cotton swab moistened with a small amount
of alcohol. Please avoid applying pressure on the glass
while cleaning!
Automatic cleaning:
Automated cleaning is neither
necessary nor possible.
Disinfection:
To disinfect the ophthalmoscope, wipe
it with a cloth that has been moistened with alcohol.
Maintenance:
Remove and replace damaged parts. If
the instrument does not function properly, proceed as
follows:

Replace the light bulb, test functionality of
instrument.
2.
Send the instrument in for repair.
Inspection and operation test:
Check to ensure
the smooth operation of all movable parts such as
the aperture selection and correction lens dials. Turn
on the instrument. Ensure that the head is properly
