NOTE: If the bike has a gear shifts mounted on the handlebar post, these can be moved up or
down to the required position. Make sure that the gear shifts point upwards and that the wires
are not twisted. Lubricate the expander screw each time you remove the handlebar post from
the fork tube. The brake wire must be adjusted on some mountain bikes when the height of the
handlebar post has been changed. Do not try to adjust the brake wire if the bike has low profi le
brakes with wire stops on the handlebar post.
Stem
The stem has two locking screws at the back end to clamp round the fork tube. Release the screws and
align the the stem so that it is in line with the front wheel. Retighten the locking screws.
IMPORTANT: Do not adjust the the upper compression screw. It has been set to eliminate any play
in the bearings. If it is overtightened this can lead to excessive wear.
NOTE: The brake wire must be adjusted on some mountain bikes when the height of the handle-
bar post has been changed. Do not try to adjust the brake wire if the bike has low profi le brakes
with wire stops on the handlebar post.
