Combining SMU outputs
The following information provides cautions and important considerations that need to be observed
when combining SMU output channels.
Use care when combining SMU channels. Whenever SMU channels are combined, it is best to use
instruments with identical current and voltage envelopes/ranges.
CAUTION
Carefully consider and configure the appropriate output-off state, source, and compliance levels
before connecting the Model 2651A High Power System SourceMeter
®
Instrument to a device that
can deliver energy such as other voltage sources, batteries, capacitors, solar cells, or other System
SourceMeter instruments. Program recommended instrument settings before making connections to
the device. Failure to consider the output-off state, source, and compliance levels may result in
damage to the instrument or to the device under test.
When combining the outputs of two Model 2651A High Power System SourceMeter
®
Instruments,
restrict operation to pulse only for all operating areas (both the standard and the extended operating
areas). The following figure and table illustrate the pulse regions for each SMU when used in
combination with another SMU. Refer to the Model 2651A specifications on the
are given priority over source and display operations, so make sure that the measurement time does
not exceed the allowable pulse width and duty cycle in a particular pulse region.
