Section 12: Remote Operations
An interface is selected and configured from the COMMUNICATIONS option of the main menu.
See
For details on the programmable aspects of the interfaces, see
“Primary address,” page Section 12-5
and
“RS-232 interface operation,” page Section 12-13
.
NOTE
When changing interface selections, the Model 6482 performs a power-on reset. To
check or change options of the selected interface, you must re-enter the menu structure.
GPIB operation
This section contains information about GPIB standards, bus connections, and primary address
selection.
GPIB standards
The GPIB is the IEEE-488 instrumentation data bus with hardware and programming standards
originally adopted by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) in 1975. The
Model 6482 supports IEEE Std 488.2. The Model 6482 also supports SCPI, a command language
protocol. This defines a standard set of commands to control every programmable aspect of an
instrument.
GPIB connections
To connect the Model 6482 to the GPIB bus, use a cable equipped with standard IEEE-488
connectors, as shown in
.
Figure 12-1

To allow many parallel connections to one instrument, stack the connectors. Two screws are
located on each connector to ensure that connections remain secure.
