Diagnostic Manual
Appendix B: Kelvin (4W) S530 system diagnostics
NOTE
When the SMU in the Diag_SMU module test has passed, the remaining SMUs will loop to test the
first SMU. The test is identical to the pin test and the test results will display in the ACS GUI test log
and in the diagnostic report in the following default directory:
C:\ACS\Projects\Diagnostic\Reports
1. Use pin 1 and the adjacent rows to connect SMU1 to SMU 2, SMU1 to SMU 3 and continue until
you reach SMU1 to SMU GNDU.
2. When a Model 2410 SMU is in your system (high-voltage systems only), only row pair A and B
will be tested by the 2410. The remaining rows will be tested using the Series 2600A instruments.
Systems without a Model 2410 will test rows A through H using the Series 2600A instruments.

Force test
During the continuity test, SMUs are used in the 2W mode. The test flow is the same as the
instrument card 2W tests.
Sense test
During the short test, SMUs are used in 4W mode. The sense terminal is used to connect the two
SMUs.
During the sense test, the SMUs are used in 4W mode. For high-voltage systems, which use the
Model 7072 HV cards, crossbars on rows of differing types (for example, high voltage rows A and B,
general purpose rows C, D, E or F, and CV rows G and H) should not be used together. Therefore,
the rows used will depend on the SMU ranges (see next Figure).
1. If rows C and D are under test, then row E will be used with pin 2 to connect the force and sense
to GNDU.
