Symptom/Solution:
Getting a ‘Not ready reading drive D:’ error message:
• Confirm that a disc is loaded into the CD-ROM drive.
• Make sure that the CD-ROM disc is “label-side” up and seated correctly
on the tray.
• Try a different disc to verify that the original disc is not bad.
When the computer is powered on, no video appears on the screen:
• Make sure the CD-ROM drive’s IDE ribbon cable is properly seated.
• Examine the cable to confirm the red stripe is properly aligned with
“Pin 1” on all connections.
CD-ROM drive door won’t open:
• Make sure power is connected to the drive.
• Make sure the CD-ROM drive’s IDE ribbon cable is properly seated.
• Examine the cable to confirm the red stripe is properly aligned with
“Pin 1” on all connections.
• Examine the face of the CD-ROM drive itself to verify that there is nothing
blocking the drawer from opening (e.g. tape or other obstruction).
• If a CD-ROM disc was put in the drive incorrectly, the disc may be blocking the
tray. Try to open the tray with the emergency eject hole (as outlined in Section 5).
