IV. WHEELCHAIR USE & CONFIGURATION
S. Dynamic 5th Wheel (Continued)
How to Adjust the Spring Force
1. Remove the Dynamic 5th Wheel assembly from the chair.
2. Loosen the 6mm screw located on the underside of the assembly (Fig. 19).
3. To decrease the spring rate, slide the screw and elastomer away from the caster fork
assembly. To increase the spring rate, slide the screw and elastomer towards the caster fork
assembly.
4. Retighten the 6mm screw (Fig. 19). Take care to not overtighten.
How to Change the Elastomer
1. Remove the Dynamic 5th Wheel assembly from the chair.
2. Remove the 6mm screw from the side of the Dynamic 5th Wheel arm (Fig. 20:A) using two
4mm Allen wrenches.
3. Using an Allen wrench, push the threaded barrel (Fig. 20:B) out of the arm assembly.
4. Slide the tubular receiver (Fig. 20:C) out of the assembly.
5. Remove the 6mm screw located on the underside of the assembly. This will release the
elastomer (Fig. 20:D). Remove the elastomer and set aside.
6. Insert the elastomer into the opening on the arm assembly with the threaded insert facing the
down backwards slot, aligned with the slot in the arm.
7. Thread the 6mm screw and washer (Fig. 20:D) through the slot and into the threaded insert in
the elastomer.
8. Retighten the 6mm screw (Fig. 20:D). Take care to not overtighten.
9. Reinsert the tubular receiver (Fig. 20:C) into the arm. Take care to place the flat arm of the
tubular receiver over the top of the elastomer.
10. Align the holes on the arm and the tubular receiver to insert the threaded barrel (Fig. 20:B)
and 6mm (Fig. 20:A).
11. Tighten the 6mm screws (Fig. 20:A) using two 4mm Allen wrenches.
