When the shutoff valve is in the on position, the compressed air supply
pressurizes the pneumatic system.

As you turn the shutoff valve to the off position, you hear a hissing
sound, which indicates that high-pressure air currently in the filter
elements and bowl is being drained out of the system. When the
shutoff valve is fully in the off position, the compressed air supply is
blocked, and it is safe to inspect or to change a filter.

You can secure the valve in the off position with a padlock when you
perform a task that requires a lockout procedure.
