5. Attach a single-ended, passive, 50-pin terminator to the other SCSI
port on the printer, if the port is not in use.
6. Attach the other end of the cable to the SCSI disk drive.
7. Attach a terminator to the open SCSI port on the SCSI disk drive if it
does not have an internal terminator.
Refer to the SCSI disk drive manual for instructions.
8. Turn the SCSI disk on.
9. Turn the printer on.
Initializing the Drive
The steps below describe how to initialize the hard drive from a
Macintosh computer. If you need to use a font disk when working from a
Windows system, follow the instructions provided by your font vendor.
WARNING:
Initializing the disk reformats it, therefore all data stored
on it will be lost. This procedure should be followed only
as part of the disk installation process.
This procedure uses the installation disk for the Macintosh computer
version of the Printer Driver.
1. Follow the steps described in the “Setting up a SCSI Connection to an
External Disk” section of Chapter 1 to enable the initiator and
establish the hard drive’s SCSI ID.
If the initiator is not enabled, fonts on the disk can’t be accessed.
2. Open the Chooser and select the XLS 8400 PS Printer to which the
drive is attached.
3. Insert the Macintosh system XLS 8400 PS Printer Driver diskette in
the disk drive.
