Painting the barbecue
If the paint on the barbecue is no longer
attractive after a long period of time, you can
renew it as follows.
NOTE
Only renew the paint on the outer surfaces
and not on stainless steel surfaces!
Preparation
• Use only hot water and a sponge or grill
brush for cleaning.
• When cleaning, do not use additives such
as washing-up liquid or other cleaning
agents. All additives leave residues and
can get onto the food later. In addition,
the paint can be damaged.
• Roughen the surfaces slightly with sand-
paper or a wire brush.
• Thoroughly remove rust with sandpaper
or a wire brush.
• After cleaning, the grill must dry com-
pletely before further processing.
Painting
• If the barbecue is clean, free of grease,
dust and dry, you can start painting.
• Carefully tape off all parts of the barbecue
that are not to be painted (thermometer,
etc.).
• Use spray paint for painting or apply the
paint with a brush or roller. If possible,
only use spray paint, as the surface will
then be smoother than with a brush or
roller.
• Pay attention to the direction of spraying
and tape off parts that are further away
before spraying.
• Use a paint that is designed for tempera-
tures up to 800 °C. Specialist dealers
stock paints for objects exposed to high
temperatures (barbecues, exhaust sys-
tems, etc.).
• Before using the paint, be sure to read
the paint manufacturer’s instructions for
use and observe all safety instructions!
• Always use paint according to the instruc-
tions of the paint manufacturer.
• Apply 3 to 5 coats of paint. Before apply-
ing each additional coat of paint, the pre-
vious coat must be completely dry.
