Important Safety Instructions
•
Do not open the case of the inverter except to check the
fuses on the KTP-12-700 model. On this model, first
disconnect the unit from DC source, and then turn on the
power switch to drain the stored charge. Only after the
unit has completely shut down can you safely open the
case to check the fuses.
•
Make sure the inverter is properly secured if you use it in
a moving vehicle. Make sure the electrical connections
are also secured.
•
Do not operate the inverter or connected appliances
when they or their cords can get wet. An electrical shock
hazard exists if touched with wet hands.
•
Ensure the inverter is well ventilated and mounted
securely. Mount on a hard flat surface with a few inches
of clearance. Keep away from items that can be
damaged by the heat produced when the unit is
operating under full load.
•
Do not connect the inverter to any other AC power
source since damage may result.
•
We recommend that you disconnect the inverter when it
is not in use, and when starting the vehicle engine.
•
We recommend that you use an AC extension cord if the
inverter and appliance cords are not long enough.
•
In a vehicle it is advantageous to start the engine before
using the inverter. The engine charging system operates
at a higher voltage than the battery to enable the battery
to charge. The higher voltage improves the performance
of the inverter. With the engine running, the battery will
not be drained by the operation of the inverter. Without
the engine running, the battery will be discharged. The
rate of discharge, and the length of time that you can
safely operate the inverter depend on the appliance
load, the battery capacity, the battery state of charge
and the battery condition.
