Multiple Super Ring (MSR)
The most common industrial network redundancy is to form a ring or loop. Typically, the
managed switches are connected in series and the last switch is connected back to the first
one. In such connection, you can implement the Multiple Super Ring technology to get
fastest recovery performance. The Ring function includes MSR, RDH and TrunkRing.
Multiple Super Ring (MSR) technology is 3
rd
generation Ring redundancy technology. This
is patented and used in countries all over the world. MSR ranks the fastest restore and
failover time in the world, 0 ms for restore and about milliseconds level for failover for
100Base-TX copper port. The other interface may take longer time due to the media
characteristics.
Advanced Rapid Dual Homing (RDH) technology also facilitates Managed Switch to
connect with a core managed switch easily and conveniently. With RDH technology, you
can also couple several Rapid Super Rings or RSTP cloud together, which is also known
as Auto Ring Coupling.
TrunkRing: The MultiRing technology is part of the MSR technology which combines the
MSR with the port trunking technology. After multiple ports aggregated, this is so-call port
trunking (Static or learnt by LACP protocol), the Trunk ID can be one of the port ID of the
MSR technology. Configured the port trunking first then you can add the Trunk group as a
Ring Port in managed switch.
MultiRing is an outstanding technology. The Multiple rings can be aggregated within one
switch by using different Ring ID. The maximum Ring number one switch can support is
half of total port volume. For example, if the Managed Switch is a 24 Fast Et 4
Gigabit Ethernet port design, that means maximum 14 Rings (12 x 100M Rings and 2
Gigabit Ethernet Rings) can be aggregated to one 24+4G Managed Switch. The feature
saves much effort when constructing complex network architecture.
Add Ring: To create a Rapid Super Ring. Just fill in the Ring ID which has range from 0 to
31. If the name field is left blank, the names of this ring will automatically naming with Ring
ID.
