Cascading control tuning
For cascade-controlled tuning, the cascade-related impact must be absorbed. Adjust the PID control individually using one of
the PID control adjustment procedures described previously.
(1)If you use automatic tuning, find the minor loop control sample rate as described in this chapter. In this case, set the sample
rate for the measure loop that is slower than the minor loop due to 10 factors. Use this as the starting point.
(2)First, adjust the minor loop. You must set the measure loop to manual mode and manually change the SP as described in the
PID control tuning procedure for the minor loop.
(3)Ensure that the minor loop is in auto mode and is in the appropriate proportional band to 10% SP change. This completes
minor loop tuning.
(4)In this step, the minor loop must be tuned in cascade mode and the measure loop must be tuned in automatic mode. A minor
loop will tune the measure loop as a series component, dealing with its overall process. Therefore, adjust the minor loop after
adjusting the measure loop.
(5)This section adjusts the measure loop according to the standard PID control adjustment procedure. The response of the PV in
the measure loop is the total response of the PID control cascaded together.
