The machines are interference-sup-
pressed in accordance with EN 55014.
It is essential that you observe the
following safety provisions and di-
rections:
1. Always remove the mains plug
from the power socket before
working on the machine.
2. Never drill holes into the motor
casing as this can damage the
protective insulation (only use
adhesive labels!).
3. Plug the connecting cable into
the mains only when the ma-
chine is switched off.
4. Never work with torn or worn
belts.
5. Never touch the running belt
(serious injuries!).
6. Always attach the dust collec-
ting bag when sanding!
7. Always wear goggles when
sanding metals!
8. Ensure that the connecting ca-
ble never comes into contact
with the sanding belt while the
machine is running.
9. Secure the workpiece that is to
be sanded so that it cannot slip.
10. For the professional user:
Observe the special rules of the
relevant professional associa-
tion.
11. The belt sander must be used
for dry work only.
12. Do not work with loose hair or
clothing!
13. Protect the device from damp
when working outside.
14. Keep the device out of reach of
children!
15. We recommend the use of ear
protection with work of longer
duration.
16. Do not use on material contai-
ning asbestos!
17. Sockets which are outdoors
must be made safe via differen-
tial current switch (FI-).
Maintenance and Care
The belt sander needs practically no
maintenance. The roller bearings and
the transmission are life-long lubri-
cated.
Occasionally, compressed air should
be blown into the ventilation slots
and dust-extracting duct, both while
the machine is standing still and while
it is running to ensure that these
openings can never become clogged
up.
Clean the plastic casing only with a
moist cloth; never use aggressive sol-
vents or other chemicals.
After prolonged intensive use of the
belt sander it should be sent to our
servicing workshop for thorough
cleaning and inspection. Such preven-
tative care can save unnecessary re-
pairs and lengthen the service life of
the machine.
Setting into Operation
Check before starting that the mains
voltage is in accordance with the type
plate of the device.
Switch with locking knob
for continuous operation
The machine is set into operation by
depressing the switch (1) in the handle
grip. For continuous operation depress
the locking knob (2) located in the side
of the switch. To release continuous
operation merely depress the switch
again and the lock will automatically
disengage.
Electronic speed control
The belt speed can be preselected in
the range from 140–230 m/min with
the adjusting disc (8).
The optimum belt speed should be
established at the start of sanding with
test runs. We cannot make a recom-
mendation, since several factors, such
as workpiece surface, workpiece con-
dition, state of the sanding belt, grai-
ning, the sanding finish can be influen-
tial.
Working with the Belt Sander
Always follow the grain of the wood to
produce a perfect finish on wooden
surfaces.
No pressing force is necessary; the
machine’s own weight is perfectly suf-
ficient.
For reasons of safety and to achieve
optimal results the following should be
observed:
The machine must be clear of the
workpiece before it is started and
stopped!
Sanding belt recommendations
We recommend the following sanding
belt grain for different materials:
Material
Sanding
belt grain
Solid wood
Coarse sanding
40– 60
Fine sanding
80–150
Veneer
150–220
Chipboard
60–150
Plastics
80–150
Steel
80–150
Paint removal
40– 60
In case of doubt concerning the best
suited sanding belt grain for a given
job, always start with the finer grain.
This will prevent unintentional exces-
sive removal.
Sanding belt changing
Prior to sanding belt changing, the belt
adjusting knob (3) should be turned
counter-clockwise while the machine
is running to shift the belt by approxi-
mately 2 to 3 mm beyond the rollers in
the direction of the open machine
side. The sanding belt that is to be
newly mounted could scrape against
the machine casing.
Switch of the machine!
Withdraw the mains plug from the
power socket!
For sanding belt changing pull the
lever (6) out of the casing and turn
it clockwise by 180°. The spent belt
can be now removed, and a new one
mounted.
Ensure that the direction of the ar-
row on the inside of the belt mat-
ches the arrows on the machine.
Turn the lever (6) counter-clockwise
back by 180° and allow it to engage.
During a trial run the sanding belt is
adjusted with the belt adjusting knob
(3) in such a manner that its outer
edge concludes with the sanding belt
support.
Dust extraction
It is very easy to attach the dust
collecting bag. Insert the plastic part
into the receptacle of the casing and
allow the spring catch to engage.
Press the spring catch to remove the
bag.
Empty the bag when the suction
power drops.
