USING THE OPTIONAL ASCII FEATURE (CONT.)
TO MAKE YOUR ASCII CALL
Placing a call with your PortaView Plus ASCII is done the same way as placing a call in Baudot. The
only difference is setting the mode to ASCII.
To make the call acoustically, place the telephone handset in the acoustic cups with the cord to
the LEFT.
To make the call in Direct Connect, connect your TDD as described on page 16.
PRESS:
Yes; if you want to change modes.
No, this answer will keep the TDD in the preset mode: “300
BAUD/HALF/ORIG.”
Dial the number from the telephone set if you are using the acoustic cups, or from the keyboard if
Direct Connect is used.
• The phone light will show you if the phone is ringing or busy.
• CARRIER is displayed when the call is complete and connection has been made.
• Begin your conversation.
After Your Conversation
1. Place the telephone handset back on the phone, or press and hold [CTRL] and [9] if in Direct
Connect in order to hang up.
2. Turn your PortaView Plus OFF.
• The machine will be set to communicate in Baudot (TDD) when you turn it back ON.
TO RECEIVE AND ASCII CALL
Your PortaView Plus with ASCII is setup to automatically receive calls in ASCII with 300 Baud,
Half Duplex and Originate modes. If you have problems receiving as ASCII call, you may have to
change modes. This may be done while receiving a call. See “To Change Mode Settings’ on the
previous page. If may be preferable to discuss the modes directly with the caller before making your
call in ASCII.”
