Cleaning procedures
In both cases the probe must then by heated up to red heat with a gas burner.
Risk of burning by naked flames and heated metal
If you touch a naked flame or heated measuring probe you will burn
yourself.
X
Grasp the shaft of the measuring probe at its extreme end
and wear heat protective gloves.
X
Allow the measuring probe to cool down before use. Under
no circumstances should the hot measuring probe come into
contact with flammable liquids.
Improper warming will damage the measuring probe.
The use of a flame that is too small or too cool may damage the
measuring probe, as can excessive heating.
X
Only use a gas burner. Spirit burners or lighters are not
suitable.
X
When heating make sure that the measuring probe (below
the shaft) is always completely contained within the gas
flame.
X
Do not heat the measuring probe to white heat.
5.3
Cleaning the measuring probe for determining the density
!
The measuring probe for determining liquid densities must be absolutely grease-
free, as otherwise air bubbles could adhere to its surface and cause incorrect
measurements.
Degrease the density probe, e.g. with acetone or isopropanol. Then rinse it with
distilled water and let it dry. Avoid touching it with your fingers.
