BATTERY TROUBLESHOOTING

If
Probable cause
Engine is difficult to start.
A
Fuel tank or fuel filter is clogged by dirt.
A
Air or water in the fuel system.
A
In winter, oil viscosity increases, and engine cranks
slowly.
A
Battery is discharged.
Insufficient engine power.
A
Air cleaner element is clogged.
A
Insufficient fuel flow or quality.
Engine stops suddenly.
A
Insufficient fuel.
Exhaust fumes are colored.
A
Fuel quality is poor.
Black smoke is emitted from the muffler during operation;
power output is lowered.
A
Air cleaner element clogged.
Bluish white smoke is emitted from the muffler during
operation.

Too much engine oil.
Engine will not idle.

Fuel filter is clogged.
Engine overheats.

Low coolant level.

Loose or defective fan belt.
