Replacing the coolant
Drain the coolant only when the engine is cold.
Total cooling system capacity: 3.5 L
Open the engine hood (page 74).
Open the radiator cap (1).
Open the central coolant drain plug (1) and drain the cool-
ant completely.
Fill the coolant in a container and dispose of it in
accordance with the prevailing environmental pro-
tection regulations.
Purge the cooling system if the coolant is very dirty. To do this,
spray water without additives into the cooling system with a
hose through the filler opening until clear water emerges at the
outlet.
Close the central drain plug.
Remove the coolant expansion reservoir (1) and drain it,
cleaning it if necessary. Refit the reservoir.
Fill the premixed coolant into the radiator and expansion
reservoir.
Do not operate the cooling system with pure water
(even in summer). The antifreeze also contains a
corrosion inhibitor.
Let the engine idle for about 5 min, shut it off and check the coolant level in the radiator. The coolant
should reach the FULL mark; if not, add coolant.
Close the engine hood.
