About Calibration
Calibration is all about the confidence in the end results of your manufacturing process. Calibra-
tion assures you that your cut parameters are accurate and within the specified limits.
In troubleshooting, calibration can be an essential step in solving the issue. The goal is to start
with a known reference to confirm and isolate issues that can cause improper cuts.
The KVAL 994-X has a built in Calibration routine to cut a horizontal slot with known parame-
ters. The routine allows you to make the cut, measure, observe any anomalies, and help isolate to
the component that causes the problem.
This chapter describes how to use the Calibration routine.
Before you Calibrate
Note:
Before calibration, KVAL recommends that a test run be performed. A test run
will not operate the machine but will NOT extend the cutting tools. Using this
function will allow the operator observe any major issues during the machine
cycle without damaging tooling or product.
See “About the Manual Operation
Before you start calibration, check for the following common issues and ask yourself these ques-
tions:
1.
Is the loaded setup correct for the current cut?
2.
Are the machine stops set up correctly?
3.
When did the problem first start? (during a run, at start up?)
4.
When was the last calibration?
5.
Is the door square, straight, and bevel correct?
6.
Ensure the door is tight against all H-Blocks
7.
Ensure the door is clamped up tight against the reveal.
8.
Is the router or pre-drill depth correct? (Use a Router Bit Depth Gauge (PN: 432C)
to check depth.)
9.
Check tools for wear.
10.
Check back side of th H-Blocks for sawdust build-up, which may affect depth.
11.
Note:
KVAL recommends that a test door is machined first and checked for specifica-
tions before production is started. If any cut parameters are inaccurate, use the
embedded calibration routine as a step to verify the validity of the test setup.
