STE Toolset Version 4.7
After you have loaded the newest version of the STE Toolset Program, you have the option to use the
STE in Local Mode at a Distance, or what is sometimes called remote mode. See
information.
10-2.1.4.1.1 Terminal Type Selection
The first or only panel on the Status Bar at the bottom of the STE Toolset window informs you of the
terminal type selection in effect. The “Terminal Type” tab allows selection of the STE terminal type. This
selection is stored in a file so it does not have to be made each time the program is run, unless the host
computer is connected to a different type STE terminal.
If the CEU, Data STE or STE-R(family) is selected, the STE Virtual Front Panel window is displayed to
allow configuration of the CEU, Data STE, STE-R, STE-RI, or STE-RT in local mode, selection of
software download, and transition into and out of Remote Control.
STE terminals equipped with a wedge may require a software download. If an Office, CEU, Data, or STE-
R (family) is selected, the wedge download will not be offered unless the wedge override is selected (see
below).
10-2.1.4.1.2 COMM Port Selection
The COMM Port tab allows selection of the COMM Port and Data Rate. Each selection is made from a
drop-down list populated with the available choices. Typing into the selection box is not permitted. When
the STE Toolset Program is run, it polls COMM Port 1 through COMM Port 15. Any ports that respond
are listed in the COMM Port drop-down list. Be aware, however, that an existing COMM Port is not the
same as an available COMM Port. It is your responsibility to select a COMM Port not being used by
another device such as a modem or mouse. These selections are stored in a file so they do not have to
be made each time the program is run unless the host computer is connected to a different type STE
terminal. The selected COMM Port and Data Rate are displayed in an information box in the upper right
side of the Software Download Tool.
10-2.1.4.1.3 Debug/Flags Selection
The Debug tab allows selections associated with debug options. The first selection is a check box that, if
checked, causes debug information to be written to a box on the Software Download Tool. If unchecked,
the debug information is not displayed. In either case, the debug information is written to a log named
DOWNLOAD.LOG. The second selection is the maximum size of the “log file”. This setting, in kilobytes,
determines how large the file is allowed to become before data is removed (over-written), oldest first. Be
aware, however, that the downsizing is done prior to a download operation so the file will actually grow
beyond the maximum specified at the conclusion of the download operation. There are also check boxes
to allow you to disable the initial warning message and enable logging of the modem control line
transitions. These selections are stored in a file so they do not have to be made each time the program is
run unless the host computer is connected to a different type STE terminal.
10-2.1.4.1.4 Override Selection
The Override tab allows selections associated with the override option.
10-2.1.4.1.4.1 CPU
Override
A header file controls the normal software download process for each CPU (Host, Network, Audio,
Modem, Wedge, and Crypto Card) that can be downloaded. The default override option for each CPU is,
therefore, “allow control by header file”. Each CPU download option can be overridden by selection the
tool’s “Force full download” or “Skip download”. If any of these selections are made, a panel is added to
the Status Bar at the bottom of the STE Toolset window to inform you the selected override option is in
effect. The override options are in effect only as long as the STE Toolset Program is running; i.e. the
defaults are not changed.
