At this point, the Bridgenode user (STE-3) must determine if downgrading is appropriate. If so, you must
press
CONTINUE.
Next, an identical downgrade message is displayed at STE-1. This Endnode user
(STE-1) must also determine if downgrading is appropriate. If so and you wish to proceed, you press
CONTINUE
. The conference confirmation is established shortly from both users.
During a Secure Casual Conference call, each user can view key data of the other two parties in the
following ways:
•
The Endnode users can view key data of the first party by pressing and immediately releasing the
SCROLL
Soft Key (After scrolling through key information of the first party, further scrolls will lead
to information of the second party and then back to the first party)
•
The Bridgenode user can view key data of a single party (the current connection) at a time by
pressing and immediately releasing
SCROLL
; if he wishes to view information on the other party,
he must switch to the other connection by pressing and holding SCROLL for at least 3-seconds.
The following is an example case of Secure Casual Conference: A conference call to discuss
CONFIDENTIAL information is required. The originator (Bridgenode/STE-3) and Endnode/STE-1 are set
for Top Secret while Endnode/STE-2 is set for Confidential. The steps to establish a conference call is
listed below:
1. The Bridgenode/STE-3 user dials Endnode/STE-1 and successfully connects at the TOP
SECRET level. This call appears as
CALL1
at STE-3. When the connection is completed, the
Bridgenode/STE-3 user presses
CONF
. At the Bridgenode/STE-3, the first call is placed in
“suspense” (
CALL1
blinks as a hold call) and another line is opened as
CALL2
.
2. The Bridgenode/STE-3 user dials Endnode/STE-2 and successfully connects at the
CONFIDENTIAL level.
3. When the Bridgenode/STE-3 user presses
CONF
a second time to establish the conference call
to Endnode/STE-2, the Bridgenode/STE-3 senses that a downgrade is needed, and presents the
“DOWNGRADE CALL TO CONFIDENTIAL” menu. The downgrade message is presented at
both Bridgenode/STE-3 and Endnode/STE-1, which were initially connected at the Top Secret
level. Both the Bridgenode/STE-3 and Endnode/STE-1 users must press
CONTINUE
to
approve the downgrade.
4. Finally, the three parties are in a Secure Casual Conference call.
7-3.8.2 Terminate the STE Secure Casual Conference
The Bridgenode user may terminate Secure Casual Conference calls simply by hanging up their STE
terminal. However, if two of the parties want to continue the call, follow the procedures below.
NOTE
If the Bridgenode disconnects, the Secure Casual Conference call is terminated.
