NOTE
The STE will display the feature programmed for the button. The feature will only
work if the feature has been programmed for the line to which the STE is
connected.
9-4.2.2 5ESS Multiple Call Appearances
When set to the STE-8510 switch type, the STE can support any combination of up to six non-data bearer
call appearances mixed between station's primary directory number, secondary directory number, a
private number, and bridged call appearances on the same terminal.
These appearances may provide additional access from the public network, and/or may originate unique
dial tone for additional outgoing access. Call appearances must be assigned to a call appearance/feature
button with a lighted LED.
9-4.2.3 5ESS Private Number
A private or Software Defined Number provides an additional telephone number and one call appearance
which is not physically terminated, but exists in the programming of the switch. The additional directory
number, while not terminated on a dedicated facility, may be accessed from the network, and may
originate unique outgoing dial tone from an instrument that has another directory number as its primary
directory number. This feature requires the use of a call appearance/feature button with a lighted LED.
9-4.2.4 5ESS Return Call
Different from DEFINITY Return Call, the Return Call feature allows you to return the last call received. If
the far end of the line is busy, Return Calling continues to attempt to reach a dialed number for up to 30
minutes and rings back with a priority-alerting pattern. (You cannot activate return call from a bridged call
appearance.) If you activate a return call from a primary extension number, the return-call notification
rings at all bridged call appearances. This feature does not require a call appearance/feature button with
a lighted LED. This is a CLASS feature and must be assigned to the line on a subscription or per-use
basis to function.
9-4.2.5 5ESS Speed Calling
Similar to DEFINITY Abbreviated Dialing, Speed Calling allows you to dial a number that is part of a
stored list. When assigned to a feature button, a single list entry is dialed. This feature does not require
a call appearance/feature button with a lighted LED. This is a CLASS feature and must be assigned to the
line on a subscription or per-use basis to function.
9-4.3 DEFINITY
Supported
Features
9-4.3.1 Abbreviated Dialing Use & Programming
Abbreviated Dialing provides lists of stored numbers that system users can access for quickly placing,
activating features, and performing end-to-end signaling. Each terminal has access to a combination of
three lists. You can program personal lists using the keypad or with the switch administrator. Group and
system lists must be programmed entirely by the switch administrator, who also assigns all list access
codes.
A stored number can be accessed in two different ways. The code of the number list may be dialed, i.e.,
#7 for Dial List 1, and then a 1- or 2-digit code that identifies the specific number on the list may be dialed.
If a button has been programmed to provide abbreviated dialing list number, pressing the programmed
feature button will dial the programmed number.
NOTE
You can assign Abbreviated Dialing to any feature button. This feature does not
require a call appearance/feature button with a lighted LED.
