CHAPTER 10
EXTERNAL UTILITIES
10-1. INSTALL ACL FROM COMPUTER
If you need to make significant changes to the ACL, it is probably easier to make the changes from a
computer connected to the host port of your STE. In particular, the ACL may be centrally distributed so
all you have to do is download the common ACL. From the computer, you can:
•
Download a DAO Definition file,
•
Download a KMID Definition file, or
•
Purge the STE DAO and KMID lists.
You may use any of the numerous “terminal emulation” software programs available to interface to the
STE to change the ACL. Most of these programs can be scripted to automate the exchange. Following
is a description of one way the exchange can be performed.
10-1.1
Electronic ACL File Formats
DAO Definition, KMID Definition, or ACL Purge information cannot be mixed within a file.
The file format is a line oriented flat ASCII file with three record formats:
•
File Type Record
•
Data
Record(s)
•
File Termination Record
The following special characters are used in the file exchange:
Table 10-1. STE File Special Characters
Hexadecimal Special
Character
06 ACK
0A
LF (Line Feed)
0C
FF (Form Feed)
0D
CR (Carriage Return)
15 NAK

and/or ASCII Line Feed. The STE discards extraneous line termination characters between formatted
lines.

•

•
DAO Records are 1 to 6 alphanumeric ASCII characters (one DAO code per line). STE will
right justify with left zero fill.
•
KMID records are 1 to 15 ASCII characters (one KMID code per line). STE will left justify the
data and right fill with NULL characters.
•
File Termination Record
•
ASCII Form Feed
