Set DCE READY
When the STE is set for a BDI mode, it must be able to handle the Data Communications Equipment
(DCE) Ready signals transmitted between data devices. The DCE Ready menu (
) is used to
set the STE to “observe and take into account” the state of the DCE Ready signals in the establishment of
a channel with the DCE or to “not use” the signal. The STE will work with DCEs able to supply this signal
and with those not able. The default setting is REQUIRED.

2-8.5.1 Set STU-III ACK/NACK
The STU-III ACK/NACK menu selects a protocol that requires message transfers from the near-end to be
re-attempted when no response is received from the far-end within the expected time. This selection can
improve message transfer and secure call connection reliability on a poor network. However, a very poor
network connection may extend connection times to an unacceptable degree because of repeated
unsuccessful retries. In this case, you may choose to abort the call and try for a new network connection.
When the STU-III ACK/NACK is DISABLED, the lack of a response from the far-end will cause the near-
end to fail the call.
The STU-III ACK/NACK menu (
) shows the default setting, “ENABLED.
