Prepare the Catheters and Transducers
Catheters and transducers can be used to perform pressure measurements in
the bladder, urethra, and rectum. Preparations can be different, depending on:
•
Type of the catheters (solid-state, air-charged, or water catheters)
•
Pressure transducers used for water catheters (DT-XX or Memscap)
•
Number of pressures measured (two or three)
•
Module that is used (CIM, Luna, WPM, or WPU)
•
Type of investigation
In Chapter 3, you will find detailed instructions about preparing the catheters
and transducers.
2.5.10 Prepare EMG Cables and Electrodes
EMG of the pelvic floor can be measured with surface electrodes. Surface
electrodes are applied to an epithelial surface as close to the muscle under
study as possible. Surface electrodes detect the action potentials from groups
of adjacent motor units underlying the recording surface. Clean the skin first
before applying the surface electrodes. Apply the electrodes as shown in
Figure 2.32.
