OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3-9
Clamshell Gate Air System Filter
and Lubricator
1.
During normal service conditions the lubricator bowl
should be kept filled above the level of the bottom of
the siphon tube with a petroleum based oil. SAE-5 or
SAE-10 motor or hydraulic oil.
2.
In colder weather or under more severe operating
conditions an automobile automatic transmission
fluid (ATF-F or Dextron) often provides better
performance than a conditional motor or hydraulic oil.
3.
In damp, below freezing conditions, freezing water in
the air lines can cause gate operation issues. In such
conditions lubricating oil should be replaced with an
appropriate anti-icing tool oil or deicer fluid.
4.
The unit may be filled or cleaned under pressure by
removing the fill plug and then removing the bowl.
CAUTION
Oil Rate Delivery Adjustment
1.
The rate of oil delivery from the lubricator should be
set at three drops for each complete cycle of one
hopper gate system.
2.
The rate of oil delivery is controlled by turning the
adjusting screw counterclockwise for increased flow
and clockwise for decreased flow.
3.
Remove the tamper resistant cap to gain access to
the drip rate adjustment screw.
Do not remove the fill plug until the bowl and
guard are in position and the clamp ring is locked
into place.
Certain compressor oils, chemicals, household
cleaners, solvents, paints and fumes will attach
the plastic bowls and can cause failure. Do not
use these products. Immediately replace any
cracked, glazed, damaged or deteriorated plastic
bowl with a new bowl and metal bowl guard.
Use only recommended air system lubricants.
Non-specified types may be hazardous to unit.
Bowl guard must be on at all times during
operation to confine fragments in case of bowl
failure.
