PARKING THE TRAILER

Position truck/semitrailer rig on a level,
solid surface.

Set the
PARKING BRAKE
,
not the
semitrailer hand brake
, and check for proper
brake holding.

Chock wheels of semitrailer.
3-7.4
Check for any air leaks in lines, relay
valve, brake pods, or any other air system
component.
WARNING
WHEN LEAVING THE SEMITRAILER
UNATTENDED, POSITION ALL HY-
DRAULIC CONTROLS TO THE NEU-
TRAL OR “OFF” POSITION OR DIS-
CONNECT THE TRACTOR HYDRAULIC
HOOK-UP.

UNCOUPLING TOWING VEHICLE FROM SEMITRAILER

Park the semitrailer according to instruc-
tions in
Section 3-7.

Using the
TRAILER LIFT LEVER (See
Section 3-11)
, raise the semitrailer until the
load blocks can be raised.

Using the
LOAD BLOCK TRIP LEVER
(See Section 3-10
), raise the load blocks up
into the gooseneck.

Using the
TRAILER LIFT LEVER (See
Section 3-11
, lower the semitrailer until the
semitrailer rests on the ground.

Shut off the hydraulic pump.
3-8.6
Disconnect the emergency and service
air lines and attach them to the tractor glad-
hand holders. If present, install dummy glad-
hands on trailer couplings.

Disconnect the 7-pole cable and hydrau-
lic lines from the semitrailer and store with
the tractor.

Pull the tractor fifth wheel plate latch re-
lease lever.

Attempt to pull the tractor forward. If the
tractor uncouples, verify all service lines are
disconnected and semitrailer wheels are
chocked. If tractor does not disconnect, re-
peat
Section 3-8.8 and 3-8.9.
3-8.10
Pull the tractor away from the semi-
trailer.

LEAD TO SERIOUS PERSONAL IN-

GOOSENECK LIFTARM LEVER
The
GOOSENECK LIFTARM lever (See Fig-
ure 3-3)
is located on the driver's side of the
gooseneck assembly. It is the left or front most le-
ver. The lever has three positions:
UP
This position raises the gooseneck
lift arm to the transport or hook-up
position.
CENTERED
This is the neutral position. This po-
sition will not operate any of the
semitrailer components.
DOWN
This position lowers the gooseneck
lift arm, permitting the transport of
the detached gooseneck.
